Le Premier Soir du Festival! 

Our Grand Opening Night- the Festival Bars will be open,French Cocktails in Café Monet. Market food vendors, live music- La Discotheque! Outdoor Cinéma The Hunchback of Notre Dame! 

5.30pm powhiri and brief speeches of welcome on the Festival Rotunda

MC Mulletman introduces the French Ambassador, Comte de Paris representatives, Christchurch Deputy Mayor Andrew Turner and Ngai Tahu Kaiwhakahaere Lisa Tumahai, Dr Kelly Tikau and Rik Tainui.

A family friendly show follows. Our French Festival Troubadours add a wealth of French fun and circus to the  evening. High energy, disco dancing, feasting, Outdoor Cinema – The Hunchback of Notre Dame! Laser and  light show. Interactive! Unforgettable! 

6.15pm- Local Band – PEAT AND THE LEMON TEA 

On our brand new Festival Rotunda, Akaroa’s own local funk rock band of local lads – welcome to the Tea  Cup. Jamming out some fresh tunes at French Festival – sip ‘em up! 


Silent Disco starts in the Festival Bar; facing out to our outdoor seating area , the sound stage and the  market. Laser and light show interior La Discotheque!  

You’ll need a headset – for $10, choose your vibe and dance the night away – DJ on hand to drive the funk! 


The Hunchback of Notre Dame will screen at our brand new outdoor Cinéma!  

Tables and chairs for your comfort and to enjoy a glass of wine and some food from our Market vendors

8.15pm Rétro Rock Band BAYLEY 

Colin Bayley was a member of Mi-sex, an NZ new wave band originally active from 1978 to 1986. Bayley  have a great time playing an eclectic mix of original songs and crowd-pleasing retro rock favorites. A good  time is guaranteed for all! 

10pm – Le Premier Soir du Festival finishes. 

Our opening night may have finished, but look out for Akaroa bars and restaurants who are offering specials and further fun into the night.
